Season 6
Episode 21 "Two to go" Part 1
Episode 1 "Bargaining" Part 1
Episode 19 "Seeing Red"
It's intriguing to me to watch practically the last episode and then the first episode- so.....Awesome!
Season summary:
This is probably my least favorite season of Buffy. We see every character have a breakdown, the Scoobies drift the farthest apart they'll ever be, Spike tries to rape Buffy, and of course, Willow goes bad and kills people.
So, right off the bat my awesome game gets a wrench thrown in it. There is only one trip to The Bronze in all three episodes and it must be DJ night because it doesnt involve a band cameo Though in "Seeing Red,"
Azure Ray provides the soundtrack to the montage. Ah, Saddle Creek Records. I am not currently a huge fan of this band, but when this song came out I was pretty much in love with it. It's very pretty and takes me back to being 20/21 in Laramie, Wyoming. (Buffy is the same age as me....)
So, the one thing that I always wonder when I watch Episode 1 is' What is going on with the number t-shirts? Willow has an 11 on her shirt, then Xander has a 13 on his. Even later Dawn shows up with a 07 on her shirt. Was this a trend then? Did Old Navy just open? Secret code? Any ideas? Let's talk it out.
Randomness:
Tara does the Grr Arg at the airport when Giles leaves!!
Do you like Gilmore Girls? You should......Jonathan is in it......
My favorite quote is from Anya in episode 1: "Just remember this whole marriage thing was your stupid idea. I didn't ask to be all crazy." I felt the exact same way during my wedding planning. :)
So, the two points on how we relate:
1. The Scoobies struggle with leaning on their significant others instead of each other. Maybe it's called "growing up", but it happens to all childhood friends. We are all hurt when our plutonic friends turn to their lovers for the emotional support that used to make that friendship special.
2. Willow's inability to deal with her childhood "nerdiness". She thinks that she is finally "cool" and worries that everyone will find out that she's really a huge loser. It festers until it drives her to addiction. The sad part is, her friends dont care if she's cool or not- it's only Willow that cares so much.
I didnt mean for this blog to get so serious so fast. I thought I'd be making fun of shiny shirt fashion faux paxs and pop punk bands for a few weeks before I posted something to serious, but here it goes. There was a time in junior high when I was a huge "loser." I got teased and bullied every day. Names, spit balls, rumors- it was horrible. Luckily I moved away and when I did I vowed that I would never be "a loser" again. So this led to some horrible decision making- one being drinking. I wasnt a huge drinker to begin with but over time I believed that only the drinking me was fun and cool and that everyone only liked drunk me. When I finally decided to quit I truly thought that no one would like sober me, and that everyone would see what a huge stupid loser I really was. The truth I had to face was that
I thought that
I was a loser-
I was the one who didnt like myself.
Of course, sober me is awesome-nerdiness and all. Like Willow, it took a long time to figure it out and apparently I was the last one to know. (friends knew all along, thanks friends!) We all deal with this insecurity and Buffy and Zander deal with it in their own ways, and earlier in time (Zander in 4 and 5 and Buffy in 3). Sadly, Willow's bad choice in coping mechanisms will cause her to struggle with her addiction for the rest of her life (are you READING THE
COMICS?!).
This season is so effing sad.
