I had a blog post prepared about my motivations and inspirations, but I am postponing that one and replacing it with a rant about my bad habits.  I was on pace to run 5 miles in under 60 minutes, which was very exciting for me, since I REALLY want to run 10 minute miles by the end of the month, but then....it happened.  Overheating!!!  Why?  Because I dont bring water with me on my runs.

At Bolder Boulder this year I got a little heat stroke because I refused to drink water during the race (I hate the water stations and I didnt bring my own), and I even read up on how to prevent over heating- but did I actually DO anything about it?  Of course not.

Here's the rule:  If you are going to run longer than 60 minutes (I'd say 45 minutes if you're a beginner like me), then you should drink water every twenty minutes.

If you dont drink water every twenty minutes, then you will end up like me- in the middle of the City Park Golf Course trail on Colorado Blvd at 11 AM with NO shade in sight, drenched in sweat, with mucous in your mouth so bad that you cant even spit it out- forced to walk the whole half mile back home so you dont screw up the rest of your training program by giving yourself heat stroke like a freaking idiot.  Plus, when you just ran four and a half miles, walking half a mile takes FOREVER.

So when I got home I immediately went to Roadrunners and got THIS:

I am extremely excited about it.  I just wanted something to loop around my hand, but this one has a little backpack.

My phone fits in it perfectly (and my keys will fit in there, too!)

It's got a little emergency ID card, love that!

Finally, it appears there's some kind of wicking on the hand strap- and who doesnt love a little reflective banding?  This couldnt be more awesome, I am excited to run with it.

Week 16, here I come!!
