Did I tell you that I'm running a marathon?

Probably!  I can't stop talking about it.  Now I'm going to blog about it.

I'm on week 15 of Hal Higdon's Super Novice training program, which is HALFWAY through the program.  I'm halfway to running 26.2 miles.

The most important things I've learned to far:

Eat breakfast.  Even though I knew this was a must from the get-go, it took me a long time to figure out WHAT to eat before a run.  I tried a lot of different things before I found the perfect thing: crunchy peanut butter on multi-grain toast.  Simple.  Perfect.  Yummy.  I sm still struggling with my nutrition throughout the day but I'm getting somewhere and I will keep working on it!

Stretch before a run.  When I first started running, it was during the stretching that I'd injure myself.  Always.  In fact, one time I injured myself so bad stretching (then proceeded to run with my injury) that I could barely walk for the next two weeks.  I "solved" this by not stretching before a run, just walking fast for the first quarter mile- then just do some quick basic stretches at the end.  This was fine for a while, but when I started running over four miles, it had to change.  Now I have a sort of long but really awesome routine where I do the warm up and stretching parts of one of my Insanity Workout DVDs- it gets my heart rate up and my muscles warm, then I can get a good safe stretch in- then out the door I go! So far, it's working out great.

Have faith in myself.  I will run 26.2 miles on September 22.  There are ups and downs- good runs, bad runs- crappy moods, tired legs, breakthroughs, successes, and boring, boring paces.  All these things have to happen- it's part of the adventure.  In the end I win, so- I can make it through the yucky parts.

I'll post running journals on Mondays for the week prior- that way I will actually READ my journal to help me out for the next week's runs.
